Yesterday, when I sold my car, I told my mom that I was going to need a treat. We had milkshakes. Weirdly, milkshake seems to be my comfort treat of choice.
When my parents leave me in NYC in a few weeks, they've already planned the purchase of some Panera (yum!) and ice cream to make sure I have on hand for that moment.
So, fellow wanna-be-healthy people, what do you do for healthy comfort food? I don't think that having a milkshake is always the solution to my sorrow, but it sure does seem to help. However, with the inevitable stress that accompanies life as a 1L (first year law student), I suspect I'll have days when I want to do some comfort eating.
Thoughts? Ideas? I need some things that are easy to prepare ahead of time to just have on hand, and then maybe some slightly splurgy, but largely healthy things that will still take the edge of my stresses...
How do you stay on top of the stress without turning into a balloon person?
The front door at Cardozo is a revolving door, but I don't want to have to be rolled through it.
Ice cream is a comfort food for me, as is anything baked. If I was a 1L, I'd occasionally (like only at the end of a week where I'd worked really hard) treat myself to a small baked good from a really yummy patisserie. Mmmm...... But only one, and I'd save it to eat after dinner, so my belly was already full of veggies. And really ONLY ONE, because if I buy two, I'll eat two.
ReplyDeleteAlso, after 2 weeks on South Beach, an apple with a blob of peanut butter is quite the treat, and oddly comforting. :-) Give yourself some dietary suffering and then you'll be more comforted by regular stuff.
ReplyDeleteAh, something free: there was a bread store in Michigan...can't think of the name now (yes I can! Great Harvest!!), but they would give you a free sample of bread, just a little slice, freshly baked. You can scout out a shop that has a free sample, buy your bread there for regular eating (they had a really yummy, all-natural whole wheat) and then, on a rough day, pop in for a free sample of fresh bread and butter. I used to do that all the time with Javier. :-)
