There are oodles of fruits and veggie stands here in NYC. There are tons of people selling lots of fresh, yummy fruits and veggies, and then there are about a zillion other food carts.
So how do you all feel about eating food from food carts? Safe? Not so much? Does it depend on the kind of food? I know some people who refuse to shop at carts or eat prepared cart food, but it's just everywhere. None of the hot food is super appealing right now because, well, it's hot here. But the fruits and veggies often look very tasty, and they can be cheaper than grocery stores.
I got some cart fruit right when I got to the city, but haven't bought any since then, largely because I don't carry cash with me...but I walk past those places, and some of that stuff looks good. Strawberries probably aren't too tasty, since the season is wrong, but what about other kinds of fruits?
Thoughts? Quality/safety musings?
The general rule is that the more it looks like you might get Hepatitis from eating there, the better the food will be.
ReplyDeleteAt least with little ethnic restaurants. Not sure how that applies to carts...
Yeah, have you had your hepatitis vaccines? I keep meaning to ask you about it...might wanna have those before you come visit me. Not that I will give you hepatitis, but NYC might.
ReplyDeleteI still haven't tried cart food, but I do eat cart produce--it's cheaper than grocery store produce, and very tasty.
had 'em. Utah is actually one of the states where they recommend it (most states, didn't back when Javi was littler...thought that was kinda weird.)
ReplyDeleteExcellent. Then we can eat wherever we want when you're here. :)
ReplyDeleteIf you wanna get tongue tacos at the cart by the subway station, you can, but I'm gonna pass on that one.
